Bill Messerschmidt invited to speak at the MATAI Fall Conference
On Tuesday, September 13th, 2022 Bill Messerschmidt was an invited speaker at the Midwest Association of Technical Accident Investigators’ Fall Conference. The three-day conference was hosted by the Iowa State Patrol at the Prairie Meadows Raceway and Casino, and included live crash testing with several Heavy Vehicles, including dump trucks and school buses. Other speakers included Kent Boots, an EDR expert from San Diego, California and faculty from the University of Iowa.
Bill spoke to the audience of law enforcement and private crash investigators about applying Human Factors science to commercial vehicle crashes. His presentation focused on:
Understanding Human Factors Science
Systematically applying the science to crash investigations
The applicability of Human Factors in criminal crash investigations
Gap acceptance behavior by commercial truck drivers
As a former police officer himself, it is a great honor for Bill to have the chance to introduce the current generation of professional law enforcement officers to Human Factors. Helping them make better criminal cases and stay safer on the job are two of the ways Human Factors can assist professional LEOs in their pursuit of excellence.
